20. FUN WHILE, FUTILE

You’re in my mind, and my heart, in my structure,
You’re in my eyes, in my blood, in my fingers,
lovely dreamer wearing our thoughts.
I’ve got you boarded up with driftwood
and salvage from a silk mill.
I’ve got you shining through my window,
I’ve got you jumping in my river,
You’ve got me lying on your leaves,
trying on your clothes,
flying on your Peter Pan—Am.
You’ve got me, I’ve got you,
we’ve got places to go,
things to do, before tomorrow
becomes yesterday.
Let me cruise through your eyes
because I’m young and strong,
I’ll bring you news of tomorrow before long.
So stay inside my railway
stay with me in the pumpkin coach.
I’ll sit beside you forever,
and tell you what I’ll never need to say,
and I’ll promise you things you’ll never
really need, just to fill your suitcase,
my presence—Sunny Fool, Sunny Fool…

Amazon e-book page Thank you for reading. If you love it, tell your friends. Please post a favorable review at Amazon, Good Reads, and other online resources. If you want to thank the author, you may also buy a copy for the low price of a cup of coffee. It's called Read-a-Latte: similar (or lower) price as a latte at your favorite coffeeshop, but the book lasts forever while the beverage is quickly gone. Thank you (JTC). PS: I wrote most of these poems (except the title poem, October Leaf) as a teenager, so I published them under the pseudonym A. T. Nager.
