Leonardo da Vinci's secret: Mona Lisa is his sacred woman in the moonRob was in the Stube downstairs, sipping a second beer. “Hey, sis.”

She asked fondly: “How are you?”

“Buzzed. Feeling good. Have a beer.”

“Don’t mind if I do.” She slid into the chair opposite him at his big oak table. A red candle burned in a glass receptacle amid tomorrow’s napkins, plates, and dinnerware. The staff were getting ready for next morning’s buffet for the thirty or more tourists staying in the hotel.

“Look what I found.” She showed him the card.

“A-hah. Well, if it’s legit, we might just have ourselves a fun tour. Hold on.” He rose, took the card, and went to the ornate wooden front desk cubicle. There, he spoke for a few minutes with a young blonde receptionist with thick black glasses and violet lipstick. She nodded a lot and looked efficient.

Rob returned. “It’s on. This guy Peter Towns is known here in the hotel. He has given tours before.”

She checked her watch. “Eight o’clock. Suppose there is still time to call him today?”

Rob nodded. “Try it. He’ll want the business.”

Hannah rang him, using a local cell exchange.

“Yes?” A man with an older-sounding voice answered.

“Mr. Towns, I’m sorry to bother you so late. My brother and I are at the hotel, and wondered if we could arrange a tour with you.”

“I’d love to help. When did you have in mind?”

“We’re here for a three day weekend. How about tomorrow?”

“As good as done.”

With a little more conversation, she had a reasonable price lined up for a four hour tour that would include the picturesque Old Town with its popular main shopping street, and the parallel street that ran along the Neckar shore, lined with university buildings, an old synagogue restored after the war, and other sights worth seeing. The other half of the tour would take them up to the castle on the hill.

Thank you for reading. If you love it and want to know how it ends, buy the whole book. The e-book edition is about same the price as a cup of coffee. It's called Read-a-Latte: similar (or lower) price as a latte at your favorite coffeeshop, but the book lasts forever while the beverage is quickly gone. Tell your friends. Please post a favorable review at Amazon, Good Reads, and other online resources. Thank you (JTC).
